Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze Story: The Snowmads Invade

The Snowmads sail in from the north and use ice magic to freeze Donkey Kong Island. Their leader, Lord Fredrik, blows the Kongs far away from home. Donkey Kong, Diddy, Dixie, and Cranky must travel across five islands to get back and break the freeze.

Each island has its own theme, from autumn forests to underwater ruins to a frozen factory. The Kongs fight Snowmad soldiers, giant bosses, and the elements themselves. The story is simple, but the journey is full of humor, especially with Cranky Kong complaining the whole way.

By the final island, the Kongs face Lord Fredrik himself in a huge battle. Reclaiming the island restores its warmth, and the birthday party finally resumes. It is a birthday party interrupted by ice, told with charm and zero pretension.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze Gameplay: Tough and Rewarding Platforming

Precise 2.5D platforming means running, jumping, rolling, and ground-pounding through levels packed with secrets. A buddy system lets Donkey Kong team up with Diddy, Dixie, or Cranky, each with a unique skill. Diddy hovers with a jetpack, Dixie spins high with her hair, and Cranky bounces on his cane over spikes.

Levels include mine carts, rocket barrels, and underwater swimming sections, all animated beautifully. Collectibles like KONG letters, puzzle pieces, and banana coins unlock bonus content and gallery art. A full meter lets you unleash a Kong-POW move that clears enemies or reveals items.

Funky Mode lets you play as Funky Kong, who has extra hearts, double jump, infinite underwater breathing, and no fall damage from spikes. It is a great option for younger players or anyone who wants the adventure without the punishing difficulty. Two-player co-op lets a friend control the buddy Kong.
