Storyline of Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Pokémon Legends: Z-A is set in Lumiose City, a location first seen in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. A major urban redevelopment project is changing the city so people and Pokémon can live together more closely. New green areas, modern facilities, cafés, shopping streets, parks, and special wild zones now fill the city.

The player arrives in Lumiose as a visitor and stays at Hotel Z, which becomes an important base during the adventure. The story introduces Team MZ and several characters connected to the changes taking place throughout the city.

During the day, players can explore Lumiose, catch Pokémon, train their team, and prepare for battles. At night, special battle zones appear around the city and the Z-A Royale begins.

The player starts at Rank Z and works toward Rank A by defeating other Trainers. Reaching the highest rank is connected to a special reward: the chance to have one wish granted.

Gameplay of Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Pokémon Legends changes traditional Pokémon battles by adding real-time movement and attacks. Trainers and Pokémon can move around the battlefield while moves are being selected and used.

Real-Time Pokémon Battles

Battles no longer follow the normal turn-by-turn format used by many main Pokémon games.

The Trainer and Pokémon move around in real time, while each move has its own range, timing, and area of effect. Players need to think about position as well as Pokémon types and move strength.

A powerful attack may take longer before it can be used again, while another move may work better against an opponent standing farther away.

This system makes movement and timing an important part of each battle.

Wild Zones and Pokémon Catching

Special areas called wild zones have been created throughout Lumiose City.

Wild Pokémon live inside these zones, allowing players to observe, battle, and catch them. Players can aim a Poké Ball directly at a Pokémon, similar to the catching system used in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

Some Pokémon run away when they notice the Trainer. Approaching from behind or staying out of sight can make them easier to catch.

Stronger Pokémon may need to be weakened in battle before a Poké Ball has a good chance of working.
